April, Monica White, Softball

Rivier College senior Monica White (Augusta, ME) has been named the Rivier College Female Student-Athlete of the Month for the second consecutive month. White, a pitcher on the Raiders softball team, helped to lead Rivier College to their second GNAC Championship and second NCAA appearance in three years. During the month of April, and into the beginning of may including the NCAA tournament, Monica went 17-5 on the mound with a 1.26 ERA. White pitched 139 innings during that span, striking out 199 batters and walking only 7 while holding opponents to a .178 batting average. Monica pitched every inning of the NCAA Regional Tournament, in which the Raiders advanced past Bowdoin College in the first round with a 1-0 victory, before falling in two straight games. In a 2-0 loss against eventual tournament winner Eastern Connecticut, Monica pitched a gem, scattering 7 hits over 7 innings with no walks and seven strikeouts, but took the loss as her counterpart threw a no-hitter against the Raiders. At the plate, Monica was equally as impressive as the leadoff hitter for the Raiders. She batted .360 for the month, going 32 for 89 with 20 RBI's, including 5 doubles, 4 triples and 2 homeruns. Monica graduated on May 15th with a degree in Biology/Pre-Med.
