(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Athletic Department is pleased to announce that senior Anna Pearsons (Kingston, Mass.) of the Women’s Cross Country team and freshman Mike Federico (Milford, N.H.) of the Men’s Soccer team have been selected as the September Student-Athletes of the Month.
Female Student-Athlete: Anna Pearsons, Senior from Kingston, Mass.
Also known as ‘AP the GOAT’, Pearsons has been the star of the Women’s Cross Country team for all four years and has gotten off to a tremendous start in her final season. She has dropped more than a minute off her time from her first race – 21:47 @ UMass-Dartmouth Invite – to her final race of the month – 20:24 @ Travis Fuller Invitational – while leading the WXC team to a first place finish at the Travis J. Fuller Invitational. At the Travis Fuller Invite, Pearsons finished second overall but placed first and she also secured a top-30 finish out of 125 runners at the Pop Crowell Invitational in which she ran a 21:33 time.
Male Student-Athlete: Mike Federico, Freshman from Milford, N.H.
The freshman midfielder has been a passionate and vocal student-athlete who has high expectations not only of himself but his teammates as well. Federico has started and finished almost every game that the Men’s Soccer team played in September after battling back from a knee injury during pre-season.
“Mike has demonstrated strong leadership and followership both on and off the field” said first year Head Men’s Soccer Coach Hayden Barbosa. “He has an incredibly bright future here and we are extremely proud to have him.”
