Two GNAC Players of the Week for Rivier
Nashua, NH - Don Poitras (Men's Basketball/Bow, NH) and Jared Andreozzi (Men's Volleyball/Barrington, RI) were named GNAC Player of the Week in their respective sports from the week ending February 14, 2010.
Poitras, a center on the Men's basketball team, averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist on the week while shooting 61% (16-26) from the floor. Against top seeded Albertus Magnus College, Don dropped in 16 points with 6 rebounds in a 79-78 upset over the Falcons. The win helped the Raiders, who went 2-0 on the week, take the inside track on the 8th and final playoff spot in the GNAC. With two games remaining, Rivier has the luxury of controlling their own fate as one win will lock up the 8th playoff spot, while 2 wins can potentially push them up into the 7th spot.
Andreozzi led the men's volleyball team to a 2-2 week as the then #5 Raiders took on four top 15 ranked teams. In the four matches, Jared unloaded on 66 kills for a .400 hitting percentage while knocking off then #9 Stevens Institute of Technology and #10 Vassar College. Against Stevens, Andreozzi had 20 kills in the 3-0 win, against Vassar, he led the Raiders with 21 kills in a 3-1 victory. The two losses came at the hands of then #14 Medaille College and #3 UC Santa Cruz, where Andreozzi led the team in kills for both matches. Jared was named to the Nazareth College Golden Flyer All Tournament Team for his play during the four matches.
