Raiders teams go pink

Men's soccer and baseball teams work to raise breast cancer awareness

NASHUA, N.H.- Chris Nugent and Gustavo Marques, captains of Rivier's soccer team, hope that spectators will notice the team's sharper skills and more cohesive play this fall when they take the field for a home game against Daniel Webster on October 6. The captains realize, however, that fans will probably initially focus on the team's pink socks.  Rivier's baseball team will also sport pink for an away game against Daniel Webster on Sunday, October 4.

Men's soccer and baseball Head Coach Rob Ciarlo says the event will raise money to support Team Rivier in the American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. Ciarlo says the Raiders suggested games against Daniel Webster because of the larger turnout Rivier typically gets for games against their cross-town rival.  "The coaches from the other teams are on board," Ciarlo says.

Rivier's baseball and soccer teams hope to build breast cancer awareness at the games as well. Students and faculty from Rivier's Division of Nursing will be available to provide information about risk factors and answer questions about breast cancer.
