Velez Helps Raiders Split with Norwich

Nashua, NH- The Raiders (3-17) split their double header today against the Norwich Cadets (5-19) this afternoon at Holman Stadium.  In the first game, the Raiders got 13 runs on 13 hits and was led by freshman Aramis Velez (Lowell, MA) who went 2-4 with 2 RBIs and scored two runs.  Tim O’Meara’s (Burlington, MA) bat came alive in the game as he went 4-4 and scored 3 runs in the game.  Ryan O’Connor (Medford, MA) also contributed with 2 hits and an RBI.  The Raiders also got solid pitching from Ford Coats (Raymond, NH) who went 5 strong giving up 3 earned runs and struck out 3 followed by Art Hoffman (Malden, MA) who finished out the game striking out 2 while allowing 2 earned runs.

The Cadets sent David Wygonski (Vernon Hills, IL) to the mound for the first game as he went 4 2/3 innings allowing 9 runs on 11 hits to the Raiders.  Ryan Kelly (Niskayuna, N.Y.)came in and cooled the Raiders offense a bit as he allowed 2 runs on two hits.  Rob Knox (Conway, NH) led the Cadets offense as he went 2-2 with 3 RBIs and scored 2 runs.  David Maxfield (Randolph, VT) also had a solid game at the plate as he knocked in 2 RBIs with 2 hits.

In the second game, Shaun Hanson (Lee, NH) came out throwing the ball well until the 3rd inning where he seemed to have lost his control as he allowed 3 walks in the inning. Jeff Breslin (Westford, MA) came in his relieve to finish the game allowing 6 runs on 11 hits.  Gilberto Luis (Miami, FL) had a nice game as he collected 2 hits and scored 3 times for the Raiders.  Velez kept his hot stick going as he hit his first career homerun as they Raiders tried to make a late comeback. 

Knox continued his hot hitting for the Cadets as he collected a couple of more hits on the afternoon including a solo shot off Hanson in the second inning.  Kase Cook (Sharpsburg, GA)smacked two base hits and drove in 2 runs for the Cadets.  Conar Mahon (Hopkinton, MA)figured out the Raiders hitters as he went the distance for the win allowing 7 runs on 7 hits.

The Raiders will head to Fitchburg State this Tuesday for a non-conference matchup at 3:30 PM.  The Cadets will host Lyndon State for a double header on Tuesday.
