Crosstown foe Daniel Webster upends Rivier Baseball in annual DH

(Nashua,NH) In non-conference action, the Daniel Webster College Eagles swept the Rivier University Baseball team by scores of 9-2 and 6-3. The double-header took place at Holman Stadium under ideal weather conditions in front of a full crowd. The losses drop the Raiders' overall record to 5-19 and the victories improve the Eagles record to 13-6 overall.

Game One: Daniel Webster College 9, Rivier University 2

Despite the 9-2 final score, the Raiders kept the game close until the Eagle offense exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Raiders were unable to take advantage and score early as they stranded eight runners. Junior Justin Chenevert (Wilmington, MA) earned the start for Rivier and struck out five in just 3.2 innings of work. Senior tri-captain Aramis Velez (Lowell, MA) and freshman leftfielder Mark Medeiros (Arlington, MA) drove in both Raider runs in the contest.

David Wesson notched the victory for Daniel Webster in game one as he struck out two and allowed just two runs over six innings of work. Several batters for Daniel Webster collected extra-base hits and outfielders Josh Chasse and Darrik Marstaller led the Eagles with two RBIs and a run apiece.

Game Two: Daniel Webster College 6, Rivier University 3

In game two the Raiders were seeking revenge but a 4-0 lead in the top of the first set the way for a Daniel Webster sweep. Freshman Steven Carlberg (Dover, NH) notched the start for the Raiders and he struck out three of the 17 batters he faced. Velez, Medeiros, and freshman Austin Biery (Raymond, NH) each drove in a run for Rivier in the nightcap. Senior tri-captain Kyle Bowser (Newington, NH) and freshman outfielder Fred O'Brien (South Boston, MA) were hot on the base path and each stole a base for the Raiders.

Kleran Koch earned the victory for Daniel Webster as he pitched five innings, struck out two, and allowed just two runs to score. Tyler Bonin and Rich Lizotte combined for four RBIs, two runs and a walk in the Eagle victory. Erick Bourdeau aided the Eagle cause with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate with an RBI double in the first inning.

Rivier will travel to Lasell College tomorrow evening for a GNAC Double-Header. First pitch is scheduled for 5pm.
