(Nashua, N.H.) The annual Rivier University Baseball Alumni game was played this morning at Historic Holman Stadium and for the second time in three years, the current cast of Raiders were victorious over the alumni by a 7-4 final score.
It was a good turnout from the alumni squad as many class years were represented throughout the lineup. The alumni received a good start on the mound from Edward Soucie (South Ryegate, Vt.) '16 as he did not allow a run through three innings of work. Lucas Palma (Bristol, Conn.) '15 would suffer the loss on the mound as he gave up six runs and the trio of Jesse Turcotte (Tyngsboro, Mass.) '16, Matthew Keefe (Bradford, Mass.) '16 & Nicholas Pica (Derry, N.H.) '16 finished out the game on the hill.
The defensive play of the game occurred in the third inning. With the bases loaded and one out, the current team was threating to break the scoreless tie. A sharp, hard-hit line drive destined for the left-center gap was snared out of the air by Mauro Da Silva (Pepperell, Mass.) '16, who then riffled a throw to second base to double up the runner and end the inning.
JJ Montello (Nashua, N.H.) '15 collected two hits for the alumni including a solo home run into the picnic tables in left.
Other attendees representing the alumni were:
Head Coach Bill Manitois (2003-2008)
Assistant Coach Mike Reed
Michael Janerico (Waquoit, Mass.) '16
Michael Scanlon (Plantsville, Conn.) '15
