Rivier Field Hockey Named 2010 Sportsmanship Team
Nashua, NH - For the second straight season, the Rivier College Field Hockey Team has been named the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Sportsmanship Team.
Each of the 8 teams in the NAC gets to vote for one other team to receive the Team Sportsmanship Award, and for the second straight season Rivier College has been the recipient of the honor.
"I'm very happy and excited for my team," said Head Coach Kathryn Gaudreau, "the women on this team showed great energy and sportsmanship all year, so I'm glad the rest of the league was able to recognize it and bestow this honor upon them."
The field hockey team finished their season on October 26th after a 1-15 season. To say that these women exibited sportsmanship during this season would be an understatement. "It's tough to continue playing when you are down 4-0, or worse, with only 1 minute left in the game, but the girls kept pushing and very often scored goals in the final minute of the game." Added Gaudreau "I'm so proud that these athletes were able to compete and give everything they had for 70 minutes a game and then smile and hold their heads high when it was all said and done."
