Rivier College Field Hockey Begins Second Season

The Rivier College Field Hockey team starts its second season under the tutelage of new head coach Kathryn Gaudreau. The team is very excited to begin its fierce competition once again in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

The team returns five players, who continue to be the backbone of the program. Senior Erin Gatsas will continue to dominate on the attack with fellow returner Kristen Tyler. "Tyler and Gatsas have been wonderful throughout preseason, they have come into the season in great shape, and have stepped up as leaders on the field both by their skills, and by their examples," Gaudreau stated. Also returning are sophomores Ashley Ruocco and Lindsay Rettenmeier. "Ruocco, on the forward line, and Rettenmeier, a midfielder, have a great chemistry together, and play well both on and off the ball. Their on- field communication has been superior," Gaudreau mentioned when asked about these two returners. Finally, the Raiders will be lead in the net by their goalie Nicole Hauswirth. "Hauswirth has been fierce in practice, always ready in the goal, and a true defender. The team will be able to thrive with her," Gaudreau concluded about the sophomore goalie.

When asked about the overall outlook for the team, and her aspirations for the season Gaudreau cheerfully stated, "Overall, I am very excited to be a part of such a new, and wonderful program here at Rivier- though the team is young, they have great heart, and desire to be successful, and I hope to be able to lead them in the direction of their goals". The Raiders open up at home on September 11th at 3:00 versus Wheaton College.
