Myrtle Beach, SC – Rivier College opened up their 2012 season down in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Raiders finished the trip 6-1 and will open up GNAC play March 23rd at Johnson & Wales University.
Day 1 – Juniata College -Doubleheader
Game 1 - Sophomore Hillary Tarr took a no hitter into the 7th inning before surrendering a single as the Raiders won 5-0. Lauren Beatty knocked in 3 RBI on two hits. Also Nicole Peacock and Karen Waterman both had two hits.
Game 2 – Rivier pounded out 13 hits and Nadjeska Reyolds pitched a 3 hitter as Rivier cruised to a 9-0 win. Marissa Mercier and Nicole Peacock each had 3 hits while Karen Waterman and Catherine Roy had two hits each.
Day 2 – Penn State – Beaver – Doubleheader
Game 1 – Rivier needed extra innings before pulling out a 4-3 win in 8 innings. Rivier trailed 3-2 entering the bottom of the 8th before rallying back for the win. Mandy Thornton had 2 hits for the Raiders while Lauren Beatty pitched 8 strong innings only giving up 1 earned run.
Game 2 – The Raider bats exploded in game two as Rivier won 12-4. Rivier had 6 different players with multiple hits lead by Catherine Roy and Hillary Tarr with 3 hits each.
Day 3 – Penn State Kensington (1) – Penn State Altoona (2)
Game 1 – In a pitcher's duel Nadjeska Reynolds held Kensington to 1 hit as the Raiders squeaked out a 2-0 win. Rivier could only muster up 3 hits but they were timely.
Game 2 – In a battle of unbeaten teams Altoona handed Rivier a 6-5 defeat. Rivier raced out to a 5-1 lead on 3 home runs (Peacock 1, Mercier 2) but it was not enough. Altoona hit back to back home runs with the first being a grand slam to take a 6-5 lead after 3 innings. Rivier had chances but left the bases loaded a couple of times.
Day 4 – Delta College
In the last game of the week Rivier jumped out early against Delta College and never looked back as the won 11-3. Lauren Beatty had 3 hits including a home run while Nicole Peacock had 2 more hits for the Raiders. Hillary Tarr earned her 3rd win of the week.
