Mellen Named to NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic
Nashua, NH Rivier College senior Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) has been named to the New England Womens Basketball Association (NEWBA) Senior All-Star Classic basketball game. The game has become a great tradition and memorable way for seniors to finish their collegiate careers.

Pair of Raiders Gain All-Conference Recognition
Nashua, NH Two members of the Rivier College basketball teams received Second Team All-Conference recognition for their efforts on the court this season. Don Poitras (Bow, NH) a member of the mens basketball team, and Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) a member of the womens team, were both announced to the second team All-GNAC last night.

Boston, MA- The Raiders (15-10; 7-5) fell just short of an upset as they lost to the GNAC's top seed, Emmanuel Saints (20-5; 10-2) 68-60 Tuesday night.

Sharks Spoil Senior Night for the Raiders
Nashua, NH- The Raiders (15-9, 7-5) just didnt seem to have enough to fend off Simmons College (15-8,7-4) as the Sharks held on to a 71-65 win on the final home game of the season for the Raiders.

Raiders stumble on the road, White scores 1000th point; Rivier 54 Albertus Magnus 67
Riv (15-8; 7-4) played 40 minutes of uninspired basketball which resulted in a disappointing loss. The visitors failed to execute the basics as they allowed 24 second-chance points while jacking up 26 treys (connecting on only 7 of them).

Nashua, NH- The Raiders improve their record to 14-7 (5-3 GNAC) on the season as they took care of the Saint Joseph (CT) Blue Jays (3-16, 0-8) by a final score of 97-59 this afternoon.

Rivier (13-7; 4-3) lost their second game in a week in the final seconds. They are battling through some injuries to key players but that is no excuse as they shot just 16% in the final twenty minutes.

Rivier Gets back to Winning Ways Against GNAC Foe
Nashua, NH After dropping 3 straight games, the Raider of Rivier College came away with a 14 point GNAC conference victory, 72-58, against Lasell College tonight. Sophomore Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) came up huge for the Raiders as she led all scorers with 25 points in the game.

Nighthawks Upset Raiders
For the first time in five years, the Newbury College womens basketball team defeated Rivier College, 62-61, Tuesday evening. The Nighthawks atoned for last years 100-48 loss to the Raiders with three players reaching double figures and starved off a second half Rivier comeback attempt to take the one point victory.

Mellen Makes GNAC History
In only the second game of her senior season, Jessica Mellen accomplished what many players only dream about: her 1,000th career point. Mellen is only the second player in GNAC history, male or female, to achieve 1000 points, 500 rebounds and 300 assists.

STANDISH, ME Rivier College (12-3, 3-0 GNAC) defeated Saint Josephs (7-7, 1-1 GNAC), 61-56, in a conference womens basketball game at the Harold Alfond Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders (11-3; 2-0) set a new program record for consecutive wins with six as they took down a very tough and athletic Curry squad.

The Raiders (10-3; 2-0) increase their win streak to five games with a hard-fought victory over Emerson College. Riv took away the Lions long-range game as they held the home team to just 14% from beyond the arc.

Riv held Fisher to 11 second half points which helped put this game out of reach. The Raiders held the visitors to 17% shooting from the floor while knocking down 42% of their attempts in the final stanza.

Riv came out of the gates strong and actually held a 5-point lead with 9:23 left to go in the first half. The Bantoms finished the half on an 8-0 run, went into the locker room with an eleven point lead and never looked back.

In a tight battle that saw both teams take 5-point advantages in the first 20 minutes, Riv (5-2) won the last 3 minutes and took a 29-24 lead into the break. The game stayed close for much of the second half as the game was tied with 8:37 remaining.

The Raiders (4-2) took a big win from another very strong out of conference opponent. Riv continues to use a stifling defense to pull out wins.

Riv (3-2) got back over .500 with a big non-conference win at home. They used a stifling second half defense to extend their lead and put the game out of reach with four minutes to go. Some silly turnovers and missed free throws led to the final margin.

Riv (2-2) came out strong in the first 20 minutes of the game. They shot a sizzling 47% from the field while knocking down 44% of their treys and 80% of their free throws. The Blue and Gray took a decided 7-point lead into intermission.

Mellen Named GNAC Player of the Week
Nashua, NH Rivier College senior basketball player Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) was named the GNAC Player of the Week for the week ending November 21, 2009. In three games played during the week, Mellen helped the team to a 2-1 record while scoring 3 consecutive double-doubles.

Raiders roll past Maine Maritime; Rivier 74 MMA 63
For the second game in a row, Riv (2-1) stumbled out of the gate. The Raiders faced early deficits of 12-0 and 17-4 before an offensive push by the Blue and Gray knotted the game at 24. A 5-0 Mariner run in the final 2 minutes gave the home team a 38-33 advantage at the break.

Riv (1-1) came out sluggish on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. PSU jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the first 4 minutes of the game only to have the Raiders fight back and knot the score at 12.

Raiders Ready to Start Fresh
The 2009-2010 Rivier College Womens Basketball Team will be led by their senior class. Captains Jess Mellen and Monica White have been the cornerstone of this program since their arrival 4 years ago. The duo has taken this program to new heights and wants to leave one final mark to cement their legacy.
