Mellen Named GNAC Player of the Week

Nashua, NH - Rivier College senior basketball player Jess Mellen (Rockland, MA) was named the GNAC Player of the Week for the week ending November 21, 2009.  In three games played during the week, Mellen helped the team to a 2-1 record while scoring 3 consecutive double-doubles. 

In the Raiders opening game against Eastern Nazarene College, Mellen dropped in 17 points while pulling down 13 rebounds to start Rivier's 2009-2010 season with a 58-52 victory.  She followed that up with a 13 point 12 rebound night against Plymouth State College in a 79-60 loss in which Mellen scored the 1,000^th point of her career, marking the first 4 year player to do so since 1998.  Jess finished off her week with another 17 point 13 rebound game against Maine Maritime in a 76-62 win.  Jess was the leading scorer and rebounder in every game during the week for the Raiders and has a chance to be the first 1000/1000 female in Raider history, scoring over 1000 points and pulling down 1000 rebounds in her career.
