Women's Lacrosse edged out by Saint Joseph's College, 13-12
(Standish, ME) The Rivier University Women's Lacrosse team lost a heart breaker against Great Northeast Athletic Conference foe Saint Joseph's College, 13-12 late this evening in Maine. The loss over shadowed the brilliant performance in net by freshman Danielle Moran (San Diego, CA) who recorded 10 saves on 23 shots.
Trailing by three goals with about 19 minutes left to play, the Raiders stormed back with tallies from freshman Paxton LaRocque (Londonderry, NH), sophomore Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, NH) and junior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) to tie the game at 10. The teams would exchange goals the rest of the way but the Raiders were unable to get their last few shots past the Monks goaltender within the final minute.
A trio of Raider – Senior Lauren Brett (Otisfield, ME), junior Rebecca Wickens (Tyngsboro, MA) and Amaral – paced the offensive attack as they each registered three goals and an assist apiece. Neuwirt finished with two goals and three assists while LaRocque was the other Raider who found the back of the net.
Rivier, who falls to 3-3 on the young season and 1-2 in the conference, will return to the field on April 2nd when they host Fitchburg State University in a 7pm non-conference contest at Raider Field.
