Nashua, NH, Raider Field – The Rivier University Raiders (1 – 1, 1 – 0 GNAC) defeated the visiting Albertus Magnus College Falcons (0 – 2, 0 – 2 GNAC) 24 – 1 this afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. Leading the way for the Raiders were Elena Reilly(Sophomore - Braintree, MA) with ten points on six goals and four assists and Jessica Amaral(Senior - E. Providence, RI) with four goals and one assist.
The Raiders took control early, systematically building a lead with five goals in the first five minutes. Savannah Neuwirt(Junior - Newbury, NH) opened the scoring for the home side with an unassisted tally. Paxton LaRocque(Sophomore - Londonderry, NH) potted a pair to boost the lead to 3-0. Reilly sparked the next two goals, feeding Amaral for a strike before adding an unassisted goal of her own that put the Raiders ahead for good 5-0, the home team smoothly taking control of the game and dominating in all facets of the game. The Raiders continued to push, driving their lead to 14-0. Scoring for the Raiders were Reilly and Amaral with two more goals each, and Rebecca Wickens(Senior - Tyngsboro, MA), LaRocque, Amanda Wickens(Freshman - Tyngsboro, MA), Neuwirt, and Vanessa Viola(Senior - Nashua, NH) all adding single strikes.
Reilly, three goals, and Rebecca Wickens, two goals, spearheaded the Raider attack in the second half. Amaral, Viola, Hannah Wyatt(Senior - Merrimack, NH), Shae O'Connell(Freshman - Bridgewater, MA), and Sarah Sigman(Senior - Dracut, MA) also added single tallies. Halle Altieri(Freshmen – Guilford, CT) struck for the Falcons to put the visitors on the board. Danielle Moran(Sophomore - San Diego, CA) was strong in goal for the Raiders staying focused and turning up saves when the visitors challenged her sporadically.
The Falcons received strong performances from Erika Blechert (Senior – Durham, CT) in goal, Amber Cohens (Sophomore – Hamden, CT), Kelsey Proctor (Senior – Guilford, CT), and Shae Bell (Freshmen – Newark, NJ).
With the win, the Raiders pull to 1 – 1 overall and 1 – 0 in the GNAC. Albertus Magnus falls to 0 – 2 overall and 0 – 2 in the GNAC. The Raiders return to action on Thursday night at home versus Fitchburg State University at 7:00 pm in a non-conference match-up. Up next for the Falcons is another GNAC foe on March 22ndat Simmons College.
