Nashua, NH, Raider Field – The Rivier University Raiders (5 – 4, 3 – 2 GNAC) fell in a tight OT game 15 – 14 to the visiting Johnson & Wales Wildcats (7 – 6, 4 – 3 GNAC) today in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference matchup. The Raiders mounted a strong 2nd half comeback after falling behind 11 – 6 just over ten minutes into the 2nd half. Rivier stormed back over a twelve minute span to pull within one at 11 – 10. Johnson & Wales was able to reestablish a two goal cushion at 12 – 10 before Rivier struck for three straight and took the lead 13 – 12 with 2:22 to play. Johnson & Wales tied it with 1:37 to play leading to the OT stanza. In the 1st OT Johnson & Wales opened the scoring at the 2:38 mark. Rivier answered with 42 seconds left to tie the game at 14. In the 2nd OT the Wildcats struck for the only goal and took the win.
The Raiders were led by Rebecca Wickens (Senior - Tyngsboro, MA) 6 goals, 1 assist, 5 ground balls. Wickens netted her 200th career goal; Amanda Wickens (Freshman - Tyngsboro, MA) 4 goals, 3 ground balls; Elena Reilly (Sophomore - Braintree, MA) 3 goals, 1 assist, 3 ground balls; and Paxton LaRocque (Sophomore - Londonderry, NH) 1 goal, 1 ground ball. Danielle Moran (Sophomore - San Diego, CA) made 7 saves in goal for the Raiders.
The visiting Wildcats were paced by Lydia Knapp (Freshmen – Glens Falls, NY) 6 goals, 2 assists, 2 ground balls; Megan Brown (Freshmen – Great Mills, MD) 3 goals, 2 ground balls; Kayla Smith (Freshmen – Eastham, MA) 3 goals, 2 ground balls; Jessica Schmell (Sophomore – Coopersburg, PA) 2 goals, 2 assists, 1 ground balls; and Toni-Anne Mule (Junior – Lake Grove, NY) 1 goal, 2 assists, 4 ground balls. Genevieve Giampietro (Junior – Meriden, CT) had 12 saves in goal and 2 ground balls.
The Raiders return to action tomorrow, Sunday, April 6th in another GNAC contest away at Norwich University at 1:00 pm. Next up for the Wildcats is next Saturday, April 12th away at Simmons College at 11:00 am.
