LIONS RALLY TO BEAT RAIDERS AND ADVANCE TO CHAMPIONSHIP
BOSTON, Mass. – Top seeded Emerson College rallied from an 0-2 deficit in games to defeat fourth seed Rivier College 3-2 and advance to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship game. The Lions took the match by scores of 23-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-18, 15-7.

RAIDERS SPRINT PAST MUSTANGS; Rivier Advances to GNAC Semi-Finals
Nashua, NH - Rivier College, the 4th seed in the GNAC tournament, swept Mount Ida College 3-0 by the scores 25-10, 25-11, and 25-18 to advance to the semi-final round of the GNAC Tournament. In both sets 1 and 2 Mount Ida, the No-5 seed, jumped out to early 2-0 leads but quickly gave in to the Raiders high powered offense and stifling defense. Set 3 started out with both teams battling back and forth until RIV took control with aggressive serves and big defensive plays.

Newton, MA - Rivier College (9-3 GNAC) reached the 20 win plateau for the 5th straight year after earning two victories over GNAC opponents Lasell College and Suffolk University.

RIVIER OUTFIGHTS UMD - Finlayson Sets Match Kill Record
Dartmouth, MA Rivier College (18-12 overall) won a hard fought 5 set match against University of Massachusetts Dartmouth on Thursday night. First year player Kenna Finlayson proved close to unstoppable for RIV dropping 30 kills against UMD to set a single match kill record for the Raiders.

Nashua, NH Kenna Finlayson (Derry, N.H.) notched a match high 17 kills adding five digs and Danielle Jacques (Derry, N.H.) added 10 kills leading Rivier College past host Daniel Webster College, 3-1 in a meeting of longtime intra-city volleyball rivals Thursday night at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

RIVIER DEFEATS ALBERTUS MAGNUS
New Haven, CT Rivier College (4-1 GNAC; 13-10 overall) defeated Albertus Magnus College to win their third straight and fourth overall GNAC match. Freshmen Meghan Farrell and Christi Pratte led the Raiders offense with 6 kills and 12 assists respectively while classmate Hannah Sturman paced the defense with a team high 15 digs.

CHARGERS SURVIVE SCRAPPY RAIDERS
Nashua, NH - Colby-Sawyer College spoiled the 2009 home opener for the Raiders sneaking out of The Muldoon with a hard fought 3-1 win on Thursday night. The Raiders, who opened the night unveiling their 2008 GNAC Championship banner, played their best game to date with scrap, hustle and heart but came up just short in the match.

Manchester, NH - Rivier College (3-5 overall; 0-0 GNAC) fell to Division II Southern New Hampshire University in three straight sets on Monday night. The Raiders started off with another slow start, falling behind the Penmen by as many as 14 points, but battled back and trimmed the deficit to just 3 points before losing the set 21-25.

Rivier Faces Tough Competition in Virginia Beach; Come Away With First Victory of the Season
In their quest for a third straight GNAC championship, the women’s volleyball team set out on a trip to Virginia Beach, VA over Labor Day Weekend to take in some tough competition to get the season started. The Raiders went 1-3 in their opening weekend, but got some positive feedback as they come back to New England to continue the season.
