Finlayson Named GNAC Player of the Week
Nashua, NH - Rivier College sophomore Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH) has been named the Women's Volleyball Player of the Week by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. Finlayson, an outside hitter on the Rivier College volleyball team led the Raiders to a 3-0 week over 3 conference opponents.
At the start of the week, Kenna carried the Raiders to a 3-1 win over last year's GNAC conference champion Emerson College. Finlayson led all players in the match with 21 kills and went 22 for 22 on serve receive. She also added 15 digs, 2 blocks and 1 ace serve in the win.
Finlayson followed that performance up by helping the team to 2 more wins over Albertus Magnus College and Norwich University during a weekend tri-match. Kenna played just half a set against Albertus Magnus as the Raiders cruised to a 3-0 victory. Then in the second match against Norwich, Kenna exploded to push the Raiders to a 5 set win. Trailing in all 5 games, Kenna lifted the team on her shoulders to give them a chance to win. Finlayson bombed in 29 kills (one shy of her personal best), 3 ace serves, 12 digs and 2 blocks in the 3-2 victory.
For the week, Kenna had 51 total kills, averaging 5.10 kills per set, 4 aces, 28 digs and 4 blocks. The 3 wins improved the Raiders overall record to 9-8 and their GNAC record to 3-0. Rivier is one of only two remaining undefeated teams in GNAC play. The Raiders look to continue their streak tonight against Lasell College, their fourth GNAC match in a series of ten straight. Tonight is also Dig Pink night, where the Raiders will raise money to donate to the Susan G. Komer For a Cure Foundation. Tonight's match starts at 7:00 PM.
