(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier University Baseball team fell this evening to an always tough Fisher College squad, 6-3 under the lights at Historic Holman Stadium in a non-conference contest. The Raiders are now 7-31 on the season while the Falcons improve to a 37-13 overall record.
Sophomore Ryan Schaefer (Everett, Mass.) battled all night limiting the potent Fisher offense to just four runs (three earned) on eleven hits while striking out four over his six plus innings of work. Classmate Cameron Way (El Cajon, Calif.), senior Kyle Flanagan (Bradford, Mass.) and freshman Brandon Kelly (Lincoln, R.I.) tossed the final three innings surrendering two runs (one earned) on three hits.
Offensively the Raiders pounded out ten hits against Fisher senior ace Zach LeBlanc (Salem, Mass.). Sophomore Fred Kazalski (Dracut, Mass.) and freshman Corey Cochran (Salem, N.H.) each recorded two hits while Cochran, senior Jorge Martinez (Methuen, Mass.) and junior Tyler Jackson (Hyde Park, Mass.) all knocked in a RBI. Seniors Brett Iannazzo (Methuen, Mass.) and David Pappalardo (Methuen, Mass.) each finished with a base know in their final game under the lights at the historic ballpark.
LeBlanc earned his 11th win over the season for Fisher as he pitched eight innings allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits while striking out eight. John Tavieso picked up the save as he allowed just one hit in the ninth. Five different Falcons registered two-hit nights with Joshua Rogers and John Batista leading the pack as they each finished 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Rivier will close out the 2019 season on Saturday afternoon as they host Albertus Magnus College for a 1pm Great Northeast Athletic Conference double-header at Historic Holman Stadium. It will also be Senior Day at the ballpark as the Rivier Baseball program honors the five departing seniors – Flanagan, Iannazzo, Martinez, Pappalardo and Brandon Thibault (Methuen, Mass.) in between the two games.
