Women's Volleyball wraps up 2016 season; Mott reaches 1,000 kills

(Boston, Mass.) Senior Dana Mott (Medway, Mass.) recorded her 1,000th career kill and the Rivier University Women's Volleyball team wrapped up an impressive 2016 campaign with a pair of wins over Emmanuel College and Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tri-Match this afternoon at the Jean Yawkey Center.

Mott becomes the third member of the 2016 class to reach 1,000 career kills, joining fellow seniors Lauren Silverman (Chelmsford, Mass.) and Molly McCormack (Ballston Lake, N.Y.). She is also the seventh member of the program to reach the plateau.

Rivier is now 29-3 on the season – the most wins ever in a season in Rivier Women's Volleyball history. The previous high was 28 set by the 2015, 2014 and 2005 clubs.

Game One: Rivier University 3, Emmanuel College 0 (Final)

Mott reached the milestone in the third set of the Raiders' 3-0 win over host Emmanuel as Rivier took the three set match by scores of 25-22, 26-24 and 25-13.

She finished the match with 16 kills and a .609 hitting percentage, one kill behind Silverman who recorded a match high 17 kills to go along with her six total blocks. Sophomore Hayley Macken (Clifton Park, N.Y.) directed the offense with 36 assists and junior libero Bethany Trevino (Westminster, Colo.) controlled the back line with 17 digs. Freshman Jillian Boyle (North Andover, Mass.) also was outstanding defensively as she contributed with 11 digs.

For Emmanuel, sophomore Mary Shelow (Miami, Fla.) paced the offensive effort with a team high nine kills. Senior Cassie Chruscielski (Duluth, Minn.) picked up 11 digs and four kills while classmate Kaitlyn Atkinson (Brookline, N.H.) chipped in with five kills and five total blocks.

Game Two: Rivier University 3, Saint Joseph's College (Me.) 0 (Final)

After taking down the host Saints, the Raiders proceeded to finish the regular season with their 22nd 3-0 win of the year as they defeated Saint Joseph's College (Maine) by scores of 25-18, 25-12 and 25-13.

Mott once again was the offensive force that propelled the Raiders as she finished with 13 kills and a .542 hitting percentage. Silverman was just a tick behind her with nine kills but more importantly collected six total blocks along the net. Macken dished out 33 helpers in the win while Trevino added an impressive 24 digs over the three sets. Senior Alley Stefanovski (Rochester, N.Y.) also played well in the back court as she contributed with 12 digs.

The Monks saw Victoria Huntley lead the way with five kills and the trio of Chatham Mills, Jordynne Copp and Shadai Gosselin each add four kills, respectively. Sarah Dyer dimed out 17 assists and Jennelle Thompson recorded 22 digs.


This concludes the Raiders' overall season with a 29-3 overall record and 10-1 in GNAC competition. Up next for Rivier, who qualified as the overall #2 seed in the GNAC Tournament, will be a date with #7 Emmanuel on Tuesday night at the Muldoon Gymnasium. If the Raiders are able to get past the Saints, they will reach the 30 win for the first time in program history.
